Amazing! It is almost surreal that I am on a ship headed to Brazil with 600 students, 100 faculty, staff and a great crew. (there is nothing like waking up each day to maid and food service all day- every day!)

Wow, it was a lot of work to leave my home ready for renters, pack for 4 months, and organize paperwork to take off on this wonderful journey! This time around was a lot harder than when we all moved to Barcelona, not sure why, maybe I realize how lucky I am to have such great family, friends and a wonderful home near the beach, I refuse to admit it might be age! Alex and Chris helped me move all my things to the garage and Mom gave me a warm send off in Houston with great food, wine and conversation. Now that I am here its time to just sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.

School starts tomorrow! Religion, Anthropology, Philosophy, Nobel winners in Literature, Indian dance and song, Digital Storytelling are my classes so far.

My email for the next 4 months is now:

Let me know how you are doing too!

Journey:
Bahamas- Hopped on a small propeller plane from Florida and after a bumpy beautiful ride arrived in Nassau. Had a great time connecting with many of the students and even ran into Cathy and Craig Small from Encinitas! This was our launching point and basically I was very happy to get on the ship and out of Paradise Island and the Atlantis atmosphere, too man made for me and I am not much of a shopper so it held very little interest.
The ship is great. The faculty are interesting and experienced travelers many of whom have lived and taught abroad. The professors are from Stanford, UCLA, Univ. of Virginia, Michigan, Oregon and Texas, to name a few. There are several teaching couples traveling with their children, one family comes from Israel. The students are great too, most are from the US (25% from California) but a few come from China, Estonia and Europe.

I’ll write more after my adventure to Brazil, planning on visiting the slums of Salvador and possibly flying to Rio.
